Lead

Love, my love, beloved paramour..
Once uttered with weight
As heavy as lead
And anchored me to your ground
Where I took refuge
Under the brightest of suns
Which I myself had created

But now the weight
Bore by these words
Rests their lead on my throat
And the sun that lifted me to such great heights
Has asphyxiated itself
And I plummet towards jagged rocks
Jutting straight from the terrain
At staggering heights
I fall, and I fall
Trying to convince myself that I’m a meteor

The rocks give way and I’m plunged into the icy ocean
Its violent waters swallow me whole
And the lead from your lips drags me deep
I feel pressure all around
I thrash about in a desperate attempt
But there is no light, which way towards life?
Surrender they beckon, they call
I follow

Invader, traitor, isolated adversary..
Once ignored, suppressed
As light as starlight
Kept far from inquisitive eyes
From which I ran
Over the great mountains
Which I myself had destroyed
